Climbing The Bukit Timah Mountain

6 June 1999

Singapore does not boast any big mountains. The tallest may be at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, the 164 meter high Bukit Timah "Mountain". Though not very high, it is quite a good place for weekly exercises for people of all ages. You may choose to go up leisurely from the big road, or to challenge yourself through many of the bumpy hilly roads. That's always James' choice. Pictured here was one of the many times we climb the mountain on weekends. This time we came with my friend and colleague Zhenggui and his family.

Monkeys are the masters of the mountain, lots of them. They are not scare of people at all. On the contrary, it is the people who seem to be scared, like pictured here on the left: Jessica wanted to take a picture with the monkey on a pole, but she was too timid to get closer --- fearing that the master of the woods might snap and scratch her.

Do you see more "monkeys" on the right?
